About the event
Have you ever noticed your Nose Work dog hesitating to follow odor because they would have to put their paws on something, go under something, or navigate through a tight space? If so, this workshop is for you and your dog. In Searching with Confidence, we will first teach our dogs to feel comfortable navigating complex spaces outside of the search context by practicing the skills of dog parkour! We will help our dogs gain confidence on different surfaces, at varying elevations, and navigating through obstacles. Then, the real fun begins when we start to add odor to our challenge course! We will be able to see the results of our confidence building exercises, as our dogs navigate through to find their target odor.
Who is this workshop for?
- Dogs trained to find Birch, Anise, and Clove
- Environmentally sensitive dogs
- Dogs who startle easily
- Any dog whose size might impede the search (both small dogs needing a way up to high hides, and big dogs moving through tight spaces)
- “Polite” dogs - they’ve taken their manners training seriously!
- “Reckless” dogs - they don’t need confidence, but they do need control!
Dogs will work individually in the confidence challenge course, just like a regular Nose Work class or workshop. Indoor crating is available for dogs who can crate quietly near other dogs.
