Leslie McDevitt's versatile Control

Program Details

Learn how to turn stress to confidence and distraction to focus using methods that are 110% positive. Control Unleashed Class was designed by Leslie McDevitt as a way of helping dogs cope with the intense distractions at agility events. These skills and confidence boosting training exercises are used for dogs in all walks of life. Life can be difficult for a dog who is worried about strange dogs or afraid of noises.

Dogs who are easily distracted, or are not able to comfortably work around other dogs, people or in new environments would benefit greatly from this series of classes. Pet dog owners will also benefit by learning better communication methods and skills to help your dog succeed in everyday life. The concept of CU is to create a focused and more confident dog!

Who is Your Instructor?

Megan Wallace is a Certified Control Unleashed Instructor (CCUI) – the first in Colorado. This means that she learned under Leslie’s mentorship, and shared videos to prove her ability to teach these concepts to students. Megan’s journey with Control Unleashed (CU) started in 2007, when the first book was published, to help her own dogs with their reactivity. An active follower of the CU Yahoo Group, Megan spending years learning from other trainers and Leslie herself. She attended a CU seminar with Leslie in 2008, to get hands-on experience learning about the program. Since that time, she has incorporated CU methods into all of her work with dogs. She was a presenter at the very first Control Unleashed Conference (details below), discussing how we can apply CU to the context of Nose Work.

Victoria Kander is currently in her CCUI program working toward learning and being the best Control Unleashed instructor she can.

The first-ever Conference Unleashed was a 3-day virtual conference held on October 30 - November 1, 2020. The program was designed for anyone interested in learning about CU, whether an individual with a reactive, distracted, worried, over-the-top dog, an instructor who has to deal with these types of dogs in class, or a professional trainer or behaviorist.

The conference focused on exploring the art and science behind the Control Unleashed® program. Presenters talked about everything from using CU for behavior modification to applying CU in sport-specific training and with multiple species. If you're not sure how the broader themes of CU fit into your training plan for your specific sport, there are unique context talks, given by experienced Certified Control Unleashed Instructors that demonstrate how to apply the CU program to various dog sports and daily life activities.
